Understanding the theoretical maximum speeds with this or that setup is interesting, but I don't think its really very important otherwise. Unless you are going for top speed runs in competition, no one runs around at 200 mph anywhere. Its as silly a discussion as how do I make 1000 whp.

yes since i have a jap spec car and it quotes the same gear ratios
ok easy way to do it, drive at 50mph in 5th, you will find your revs are at roughly 2250rpm
if they are at 1800rpm you are right and your 5th gear is different than mine.
its a mistake that has been in all the literature.
And yes im still running a stock 4.1 diff
Also make sure you use GPS for speed, not your speedo

i always think its funny when someone posts up something about expanding what our cars could be capable of they are shot down. its almost as if people dont want others to suceed or for that matter for our cars to become any more potent than what they currently are. the fd is an excellent car but things have changed since 1993 the cars that are rolling off of the assembly line are doing some very impressive things. To compete with them we have to up our game or fall behind your choice. personally i want to be some what of a challenge.
Well if it's so *** important then stop dropping all the important parameters. If you want to go 200 mph and are trying to figure out required Hp then you better figure in rolling resistance, air drag, additional drag to add down force, tire slip, etc.
The gearing will easily do it, you can tell that by driving 50 in 5th and multiply the rpm read by 4, its still below redline; big deal.
a basic estimate of power 0.36 x 19.26 x (speed)**3 x 1.05 x 1.06 /146600 +150Hp
.3 x 19.26 = Cd x cross section area stock but with a 10 deg wing angle and splitter to get some down force Cd more like .36
1.05 trans losses
1.06 diff losses
tire 150Hp rolling losses ( estimate at 200 mph)
need ~575 Hp
Now go run the texs mile .. oh sorry you need more Hp to be able to accelerate to 2000 within the mile.
So go run the west texas open road race you have 60 miles - rock cliffs in turn to get up to speed. By the way, in the unlimited spped catagory most of the super cars entered, dnf before completing the 120 total run and it typically takes a NASCAR road race car to get an average above 200. at what 750 plus Hp.

Oh, that's right. Your engine won't even start.....
Exactly.

You will need over 600RWHP to hit 200 in the mile. I was just short of 600 RWHP and ran 196mph at Texas Mile. I now have a tubo on my setup and plan to run the next Texas mile event with over 800RWHP.

Less weight will help you get there sooner but ultimately weight isn't a factor in top speed if you have a long enough straight. Its purely a function of horsepower and drag. A C6 would also need around 600hp to hit 200 (maybe slightly more since its a slightly larger car).

I'd be weary over 200mph. Every time I think of "top speed" and "rx7" this video comes to mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8b8oYuftYk
Skip to 2:00. Old thread I know, but without this video thread is incomplete

^^ If your car is 100% stock (not even a DP) you have about 5 mph more maybe 10. That number comes from stock specs and personal experience.
Back in the day (1998) I was on the rosarito-tijuana rd (Mexico) and decided to test out my 100% stock FD top speed. Man After 150 it climbed very slow, and it just didn't have any umph after that. So slow that I actually had time to think about "things" and I got off the gas... I don't remember where exactly I shut down but I could tell there wasn't much there and I was gonna run out of straight road real soon as things go by real quick at 150.
If you open that baby up that top speed threshold expands real quick. It's kinda scary because as a driver you don't realize exactly how fast that is. These days I can hit 150+ at a drop of a hat, it comes up so quick that it doesn't seem like a big deal. But it is.
