Hi there my car is sitting very low, this is a problem as the tyres ive been told are going to wear on the insides at an accelerated rate cos of the angles of the wheels now. The front also grinds in the arches when i corner at speed and its ripping the front arch out very annoying, im trying to make the car more driveable and enjoyable, should i go back to standard or get adjustables?? i want the front up another 20mm

What is the current state of your car? All stock, or have the springs been replaced with squirrels (joke)? To make suggestions, we need to know what you are starting with.

well ive had a look and they look standard but they are a about 2 inches lower than standard height, thats all i can really say about their current state,

im thinkin of getting some standards and fit them myself

 

2 inches is too much to drop from the car's ride height. Closer to 1 inch is reasonable for ride comfort and for not bottoming out. You could get a set of inexpensive Tein springs from E-bay and install them yourself. If you buy aftermarked springs make sure that they are not too stiff. Around 350-400 lbs/inch is reasonable for the front and less rate for the rear. They will go in without a spring compressing tool. If you install the stock spring you will need to use the compressing tool. I prefer the car lowered about 1 inch front and a bit more in the rear.

Of course, if you can afford, the adjustable coilovers are the ticket. You set them up exactly as you like them. Again, pay attention to the spring rates.

Measure from the floor to the top of your inside fender and let us know how many inches it is. If its lower than 25 - 25.5", I agree it is too low. Take some pics of the suspension if you want us to help you figure out what shocks/springs you are running.

Tires will only wear out if the wheels are not properly aligned.

 

Did you just buy this car? If the springs look stock, its possible that the previous owner had them cut to lower the car. Another thing to look at is the rubber strut mounts. If theyre the original ones, chances are they are bad causing the car to sit even lower.

 

hi just measures this bad boy is 25 inches off the ground, if the wheels are turned at the front a bit there is about 1 to 2 cm of travel before it hits the lip, this lip is almost vertical now and i need to roll it back up before its full respray this weekend. How much are teins? a set of hks adjustable coilovers just went for 330 on ebay, doh, i want to fit and forget, the springs do look standard, maybe they have been cut. how do i post pictures to show yall how it sits etc

 

25" is still reasonable. Is this with stock wheels?

You need to get a better idea of what you've got on the car in terms of wheels, tire sizes, shocks, springs, and upper mounts.

I'd get those fender lips rolled under and fixed up BEFORE you paint, or you'll be really sorry when you yank the lip on a brand new paint job.

 

Get coil overs if you want to be able to raise/lower it whenever you want. I think Eibach springs are the perfect compromise. About an inch lower than stock, but not so low you scrape everywhere. And lowering springs affect camber, so you need to have it aligned after you install springs, or if you go back to stock springs. Just go to a reputable shop that gives you a printout with before and after specs. Some low-end shops will "Set the toe, and let it go".

 

25 inches is about where I have my car with the Teins. It is about 25 - 25.25 on the front and 25.5 with about half a tank of gasoline in the rear. That really should worlk for you, unless your present springs are too soft and bottom out. Maybe the previou owner cut the stock springs that are rater around 200 lbs/inch? That would be too little spring rate for that ride height.

The Teins were about $115 for a F&R set.

I'm running H&R springs with Koni shocks and the ride height is 25.5". 25" should be OK if the shocks and upper shock mounts aren't worn out. However, at 25" ride height it is very unlikely you are running stock springs.

Seems like you know very little about the car you purchased...

I think ill just roll the lips back and get the wheels aligned properly

 

Ah, gotcha.

Might wanna try and check the condition of the upper shock mounts. that can affect ride height by about .25 - .5" from my experience. You're definitely not on stock springs though. Stock springs should put you around 26" or so.

 

ive rolled the arches up as much as i could the drivers side seems about .5 inch lower than passenger, and its grinding when i hit a sizeable dip still, hmmm, i dont want any grinding, think back to standards for me. if i keep it
