Are the ones sold in the US different from Japan? I installed mine today and the slots for the stalks(wiper and light) do not light up.

I noticed that, too. It seems like they cut the housing to accomodate the US stalks, but they had the positions reversed left to right so it is all wrong. I ended up cutting mine with a Dremel and it turned out great. I drilled a hole at the corners and then used a cut-off wheel to slice my way to the hole I drilled.

I drove a right hand drive RX7 back home in Asia. The signal stalk is in the right side. When I reversed the re pod and compared it to the lower portion of the colum, it lined up. Guess RE never expected that the majority of his products would end up here in the US market on a left hand drive car.

 

yup....take a dremel to that thing...wear eye protection!

 

How did you affix the cover to your column? Anyone come up with a nice solid mounting, other than tape?

 

the re one comes with tabs just like the stock column. therefore it goes on there with a click....no tape required. i heard that's missing on those copies

They are made for a right hand drive. The slots are different for the stalks
