thermostat replacement help

i installed my new mazda thermostat from RP and now it leaks from the bottom of the filler neck when i pour antifrezze in there. the rubber gasket fit snug in the opening but the thermostat itself would not sit centered in place. i tried to make it stay centered and tightened the 3 bolts down but it would slide down. i know its supposed to be a straight forward install or is there a trick to keeping it centered.
thanks!

You might try a very little silicone to hold it in place!

I had this same problem the first time I replaced my T-stat, it was dark outside and I didn't notice that the gasket wrapped around the thermostat. As the saying goes, "do it right or do it twice." This is the second time, with the gasket in the proper location. The t-stat and gasket assembly should sit in the hole very easily, it's a breeze to reinstall when you do it properly.

Yep, the rubber gasket has a slot that the t-stat fits inside. It centers itself, and can't slide down once put together properly.

havent had a chance to look at it again since yesterday but i will do it later on today. i didnt notice the slot inside the gasket and hope its there since it would make sense with the thermostat fitting inside the ring(gasket). ill also take a picture for future reference if anybody else has the same problem down the line. thanks guys!!
