Thermosensor / Water Temp Gauge

Is the top, green sensor on the back of the waterpump housing also the one that sends the signal to the water temp gauge? I know it sends a signal to the ECU, but did not know if it is responsible for the temperature readout on the PFC & Stock Water Temp Gauge.

Thanks,
Josh

PS did a search, but still haven't found the answer to this specific question, though I am only through the 1st page. Thanks again.
