Testing Vacuum Chambers

Before we rip out the turbos, I want to check to see if the vacuum chambers are working properly.

Is there a simple test for these?

Thanks for any help

You can pressurize them with a MityVac and verify that they hold the pressure for a reasonable length of time.

My Mity vac will pull a vacuum ,And there is only one vacuum chamber .It is below the alt in the front of the motor and has only one nipple .The chamber on top of the motor with two nipples is a preasure chamber .

Mityvac is the tool you need. Worth its weight in gold. Get the MV8500 kit.

Also, if you haven't...check out the FAQ thread in this forum and look under "T" for turbos and you'll will find some excellent tutorials on troubleshooting turbos and checking components. Priceless info. there.

If you don't have a Mityvac, just disconnect a hose going to each after a test drive. If there is healthy rush of air, there is no leak.

That said, if there is not a rush of air, the chamber is not necessarily the source of the leak. But the test above is not nonsense since in most cases the tanks themselves don't develop leaks. It's usually a check valve, hole in a hose, or sticky solenoid that drains the chambers.
