I believe the workshop manual gives an explanation on testing solenoids

Check the resistance of the solenoids with an ohm meter. You can also apply 12 volts to them. It's a good idea to heat them up to see if they work while hot.

Not only do you have to omh test them, but you should also pressure test them. If it leaks at all, then it's time to replace it.

Yep, you'll need a Might Vac to do do it - about $30.00 at the auto parts store. A charged up 12V Motorcycle battery (or any 12 volt source) is handy and needed also. I would not waste my time checking with the ohm meter, put them in the freezer in a baggy to protect them from condensation for 20 minutes and check each one frozen as well. They either work, or don't work. It's really easy to do if you follow the workshop manual. You are really smart to to do this now. Don't forget to check the function of your one and two way check valves as well by simply blowing through them, they are a lot more likely to have problems than the solenoids. Replace ONLY with OEM. $$$ but you don't EVER want to do this job again.
I almost comitted suicide trying to put everything back together again!!!(j/k). BTW, you become an official Rotary God if you do this job successfully on your own - it is the hardest thing to do on this vehicle CORRECTLY. God speed.
