Test Drove RX7 - Few Questions
I'm picking up a RX7 in the next 1-2 weeks and have it down to a list of about 5.
I checked one out tonight and took a test drive.
I've never driven a rotary RX7 but think something may be wrong with it. You can feel the first turbo spool up and it pulls good to about 5000-5500rpm, after that its just kind of flat.
Is this the normal rotary feeling or should it pull and build torque to redline. Reman motor with 25K and rebuilt turbo's with 5K.
It feels like the second turbo isn't holding boost, once it hits 5500 it lags a bit then the tach kind of jumps to 6500.
Something hit me, it could almost be clutch slip but the car is dead stock with 65K miles, 250ft lbs isn't a ton and it seems odd it would slip.
Car drove well but had other issues, lots of suspension/bushing noise in the rear, very loose shifter assembly, and a wicked leak on the window seal that was louder with the window up than down.
My big concern is the drop in engine power, anything to look for?
Thanks

I am deffinently not an expert, but I do know that this problem would be a lot easier to figure out if there is a boost gauge installed. Is one installed?

i had the same pronlem when i got mine. they primary turbo worked just fine and then after that nothing. what i look for was my vacuum lines. i looked under the UIM and there i 1 single vacuum line off. pluged it back onto the solinoid and i had full boost in the 2nd turbo. you could try looking for that. just remove the vacuum box right in front of the UIM (i think its 2 screws) and look for lose lines.
