Temp gauge flucuates from normal temp to HOT!

Temp gauge flucuates from normal temp to HOT!
Drove the car tonight and it flickered from Normal to HOT. THe coolant was cool, and the manifold i was able to rest my hand on... is it really getting hot?

stop by your neighborhood mechanic...they should have a laser temp guage...shine it on the motor and read the temp...simple as that. get another temp guage...its not like they are as expensive as your side seals or o rings will be in a few days if it is.
