temp acts like a tach

Hey guys,

Ok, here it is: driving to work, cold morning, PFC reading 40-42C air temp, stop and go traffic, coolant starts to climb to 90, then 91...92...93... and hits 100! I am about to turn on the A/C and fan on 3 to cool her down, and just before I did that (thinking I would wait and see if it hits 101 first) and it starts dropping like a rock, 98...97...96... real fast, and holds at about 89.

I figured it was the thermostat just not opening up until it hit 100. then it stays cool for awhile, same stop and go traffic, and then it does it again! WTF!!! then after it drops down, it stays down, and once I get free of the traffic, it drops to 87, and even drops to 86C after doing a short WOT, and stays there. When I parked, let it cool down, temp started to go up, but kicked in the fans on high, it dropped back to 86 and was there when I shut her down.

The question is: anyone have this similar problem? I replaced the thermostat about 10K ago, and just threw in a new engine and turbos, so it should be fine, but I get the feeling it is sticking. before it never got over 99 in trafic and heat, and stays at 95/96 at night.

Intake, CB, DP (wrapped), stock rad (for now), stainless oversized AST, stock IC (for now), street port, wastegate ported, new injectors(I know not related but just to let you know what it's got), and PCF (no datalogit yet).

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Find someone with a datalogit, lower the fan kickon points and you'll never see 92+ again. I love the datalogit, thanks GLEN!!!

Thanks nocab72.

I was thinking of getting one, but I would't use it enough to justify it. anyone in the Venura or santa barbara area have one?

My car acts exactly the same as yours, I think the PFC kicks the fans into high at 100 degrees C, as soon as mine gets up to 99-100 (rarely, only in heavy traffic) the temps drop down very very fast.. like 1 degree every 5 seconds. We both need a datalogit! For now I wired up a manual fan switch until I make the trip down to XS.
