Technical ? about airbox need help

Ok try to follow me on this. There are two main (the 2 biggest ones) hoses coming out of the stock air box. And one of them is shorter and goes to the airpump. If you know which hose I am talking about you can help me. My freind was helping me put a new belt on and we had to take off this hose. Well he put it on backwards so the belt wore a hole through it. So now I have no boost. To buy a new one at the Mazda down the street is $183. So I was thinking since I am getting a new intake anyway wouldn't that replace that hose. My question is are there any intakes that replace this hose whether its short ram or forced induction or anything just something to replace it. I was looking at the Blitz SUS and it didn't look like it replaced that hose. My local shop also told me it didn't. And they said mostly with a FD you dont get short ram or anything like that not that replaces both of those hose atleast. Just a small little metal hose that he showed me. How come then people have those chrome lines coming off of there intakes then? Some advice about the right intake would be apreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

Most intakes you will find still use the stock hoses, especially the cold air boxes. I know what hose your talking about and it is for the primary turbo, the 2nd biggest hose-secondary turbo. The airpump is one of the smaller 4 hoses. I really don't think that a hole in an intake pipe like that will make a boost problem. I have a slight hole in mine and it's boosting full 11psi. Your boost problem will probably lie somewhere else. The only thing I could think of is maybe piece of the rubber hose went through your turbo Back to the intake.... I see you have these options:

get the polished metal pieces (look sweet and will last)
build custom intake with different hoses there (might be complicated)
check out the Apexi intake (I am pretty sure it replaces all that rubber hose crap)

Here is a pic of the Apexi intake, don't mind the drawn circles.
