TB inlet elbow plastic vs aluminum?

TB inlet elbow plastic vs aluminum?
My '94 has a black plastic TB inlet pipe. I have seen pics of other engine bays with an aluminum inlet pipe. It looks stock, as it is the same shape as mine. And, no, it's not the Greddy I'm talking about. Am I crazy or what?

Some are black plastic, others are black plastic painted silver. But they were all plastic from the factory.
