taking speedo/dash out to delimit j-spec fd
hi.
as the title says...im just wondering if theres any guys with j-spec fds here that have delimited them? at the mo mine is limited to 112.5mph and i need to show this pesky supra round my way i can nail him! anyways just kidding...i have the delimiter chip BUT i wanna know how the HELL to take the dash (drivers side) out to get tot the speedo etc, without the cr4p japanese plastic cracking if i so much as pull it slightly.
any help would be appreciated

^ are you sure, when i got my rx-7 running i was using everything from the front clip j-spec ecu, cluster, wiring and it also was speed limited i read that there was a green wire to pull out of the ecu to remove the limiter but that s%*t didn't work now i have my power-fc and no speed limiter, efini82 you don't need to remove your cluster to hook up a speed cut.

This green and red cable will remove the 180km/h limiter without a "delimiter". Remeber to reconnect it if using a PFC or the digital speedo will not work.
To remove instrument cluster u have to remove two or three screws, then pull the whole thing towards you. It feels like crap but u wont brake anything. Just remember to remove the steeringwheel and the plastic behind it first.

thanks for the responses. trust me, my fd has a speed cut. i hammer it ALLLLLLL the way to 112.5mph and it then stops accelerating.
zebb, i seriously thought about doing it thru the ecu as i have an apexi rsm and had to wire that all in there so i know the wires ur on about, but then some of the functions on the apexi rsm wont work, and, as you said, the apexi power fc that i have sitting in my room wont work properly when its fitted.
the chip i have actually converts the speedo from kph to mph and therefore the clock will read in mph NOT kph and because of that the car will now instead be "electronically limited" to 180mph, not 180kph (112.5mph) - which of course sounds a **** load better....
"whats the top speed of your car?"
"well...its limited to 180mph!"
so i basically want to know how to get the speedo housing out. and any tips if anyone has any
thanks

zebb, iv just seen that u live in sweden, so that explains why you'd still want ur speedo in kph. i was wondering why you'd want to delimit the car but not put it to mph......u use kph on the continent...
hmmm...taking off the steering wheel!! that'll be fun!

The wheel is no problem, just unscrew the screw behind the wheel and remove the horn cover. Then there is just one big bolt for the wheel.

And removing the dash isn't too difficult. First remove the steering column covers, there are 3 screws underneath. There is one more screw you need to remove on the drivers side to the right of the bonnet release.
Then gently pull the whole instrument cover towards you. You will need to move it very slightly from side to side or it wont budge. The plastic is very brittle and it is held in place by 4 or 5 strong spring clips near the windscreen so take your time here. DO NOT try and pull it up, only towards you. You dont need to remove the steering wheel but it will give you slightly more clearance if you do.
Once its out you need to unplug the cables, there are 4 multiplugs secured by plastic tabs.

You dont need the delimiter if running the power FC, swapping the ecu will remove the limit. All you'll need to do is take the clocks out to put a mph sticker over the kmh.

so the pfc does the speed in mph not kph? sweet! didnt know that.cheers .
in which case DaiOni the only reason to drop out the speedo housing is to put some black tape over the "k" in "kph" so no one gets confused

cause i have some friends here (in Canada) who have skylines r32, and they are limited to 180 kmh.
but i had a R33 gts-t half-cut swapped on my 180sx.
and i got it up to 296 kmh on the Apexi Rev Speed.
obviously it was modified, but i never did anything to the ecu... except tune it to run 16 psi daily.
