Tail lights stay/come on by themselves

Electrical. Ahh I hate mystery electrical problems. For some odd reason, my damn car's tail lights stay on, or just come on, regardless of how the headlight stalk is selected. Now with my luck, this isn't a normal problem that can easily be explained, but does anyone have an idea how to trace something like this?

My idea: Something relay based, ie relay stuck on? I'm not great with how to test or know even what relays really do, but they are the mystery that I haven't touched on this 1996 rx7.

is it like some one is pressing on the brake light that it is on? if so i had this problem as well, if you look under where the brake pedal is there is a little switch that gets released when the brake is pressed to turn the lights on and off when at rest. There normally is a small plastic piece that can break and leave the switch thinking the pedal is being pressed.

happen to me long ago, just used a screw or bolt that fit in there
