Tach problem

It's a weird thing, and at first I thought I was going crazy, but I think I have a problem with my tach.

I'll be driving along, and I'll notice my tach just start to stall. For example, say I'm cruising at 3500, and I put down to try and pass some old granny. The tach will stall at 3500, even though I know for SURE I'm speeding the motor up. It happens very rarely, and all the fuses check out, and there's a constant flow of juice going to the guage cluster. It's the only guage that does it (as far as I can tell).

This is the weirdest thing, and I was wondering if you guys had any advice.

Thanks,
Danny

even tho there two totally diff. cars....
my first gen was doing this..the needle was doing the same thing you guys are talking about, what i did was look for the wire that tells your rpms to move and see if theres any kinks in it or maybe even broken, cause in my opinion the engine might vibrate it loose or cause it to jump....i know that once i found mine i saw that it had shitty wiring and a crappy connection, so i redid it and it doesent fluxuate anymore, i know that the motors are totally diff. but this might help....or at least give you an idea on whats causing it....

Search, FDjunkie is the DIY Tach Fix Man

The tach problem is pretty common on FDs. Over time the soldered joints on the back of the tach lose contact, and capacitors can go bad too. There has been numerous threads on this subject. FDjunkie has an awesome DIY tach repair write up. PM him with your email address and he'll send you a copy of it. You'll be glad you did it.

Thanks. I'm actually surprised more people than me have the same problem. Seemed like an odd one!
