depends... are you new to the FD?
if you are, i'd recommend staying sequential for a while at least... personally i think the twins are a hell of a lot of fun!

If you have the money, go for it. However, you need more than just a single turbo kit to do it.

In my opinion, the most fun 7 is a stock twin sequential car with all the bolt ons running about a bar or so.

well i am new to fd's they have been my dream cars ever since i was little however i am not new to turbocharged or powerful rwd cars so the stock twins are good for about 350 hp and like 13 psi right or is that alittle to high

dude if don't even have an FD yet its difficult to set-up a buget for going single. Dependent on whats done to the car you eventually buy, the costs are likely to be dramatically different. If stock or close to it, your looking at ~8K in parts easily. However, if the car has some bolt-ons you can eliminate those costs.

3500 for kit (t-78)
1K for ECU
about 1K for fuel
about 1K for IC
about 1K for MP and cat-back
about 1K for clutch/flywheel
gauge prices range drastically but you'll want boost, fuel pressure, some sort of wideband, oil pressure is a good choice if your stock one doesn't work properly, water temp.
so we'll go 1K there
tuning costs~400
ported motor if you want~3500

I dunno that's what I came up with off the top of my head. add on lots more $$$ if you don't plan on doing the installs yourself. But if you have the money and no-how, I'd do it. All and all, if you want to go single, I would do your research and find a nicely put together single turbo car and purchase that. It will save you a lot of money and time.

Going single from a nearly stock car will take over $7k if done PROPERLY. Also, you will not be able to legally pass smog with a single setup. Why don't you wait until you actually GET the car before asking $7k questions?

hehe...people also have problems with the rotary motor...so might be good to just swap that out too?

well like everyone else said...single turbo is expensive...theres also upgraded twins available or you can just replace them with a used set for pretty cheap...just wait till you get a fd and see if you have any turbo problems...

i'd first learn to enjoy the car. I'm just now converting to single-->after 6 years of ownership. take your time and learn to love the twins to truly appreciate the mods you do or plan to do. the 7 is truly an enthusiast machine so learn to love the original configuration.

I pretty much decided to go single turbo after having my car for a few months. The engine bay was trashed so it just really wasn't worth going back with the twins for me considering what my goal for the car is down the road. I already had a PFC but needed most of the other supporting parts to do the swap. Like these guys are saying, I spent probably around $9-10k on all the parts and labor (that includes replacing things like the engine and wiring harnesses and other worn out OEM parts).

I thought of typing that, but consider:

When I installed many parts, to include my coilovers, HIDs, etc nothing was really broken.

I have recommened that many customers upgrade (fix?) certain parts while their engine was out of the car---clutch, injectors, motor mounts, oil metering pump lines, the list is endless.

I guess it depends on how you define 'fix' vs 'upgrade.'

If you do go single turbo and use a kit like the Greddy or Apexi you will have to put a BIG dent into your downpipe to clear the EGR flange or get a modified lower intake monifold. I do these modifications in my shop for $175. Here are some pictures.

Here are more pictures of the modified LIM. I powder coated the LIM to keep make it easy to clean the dirt and oil from it. After the modification I have plenty of room the clear the DP and get it in and out for maintenance. If any one need to have this mod done PM me. I have several color choices offered with podwer coating too.
