Symptoms to Running Rich

I have a lot of soot in my exhaust and when I accelerate hard a black cloud is emitted. Am I running rich? What are the symptoms? If I am running rich, what should I do to correct?

sounds like you are running rich. you probably are backfiring/popping as well. have you cleaned your air filter. maybe change your plugs (and wires). are all you hoses on?
