ok, some people are saying replace every 10k miles, others say 30k miles. i'm reading the recommended schedule from the mazda owner's manual and it says 60k. is mazda THAT OFF? Has anybody actually ever had an engine go on them because of the fuel filter? Not trying to be an ***, just wondering. I mean there's no reason to throw good money away right?

I thought it said every 25k? I'll have to open up the manual on my way home. If you change it yourself, you're saving $75.00 though. Although, you must have munk like patience. Once changed, I did notice a difference or maybe it's a coincidence but no bucking bronco with the 3k hesitation with a new fuel filter.

I was about to do the fuel filter change listed on robinette's site, when my cousin stopped me (he's a automotive software engineer for dinan) and said, "the wire mesh will NOT filter as well as a paper/stock fuel filter, it's a race filter, you don't own a race car, and you'd have to clean that thing every 500 miles"

is there any truth to this? has anyone done it? any ill, good effects?

As far as dying idle.. MAP Sensor is the best bet, I've had that problem. Rough idling could be a cause of fuel filter or faulty seals. I am about to do a comp test on my FD, I'll post my results, about to replace the plugs/coils, and recheck all the vacuum lines under the manifold/throttlebody. IF i come up with anything, I'll let you know.. i've been having a lot of idle problems lately...
