Switching from Tan to Black interior
Switching from Tan to Black interior
I lost my FD a while back, and I've been looking ever since. I've seen a few FDs that I've been interested in, but I always back off because of the tan interior. I really want black interior. Is converting it a real bitch? Carpet, door panel, and seats right? I've never been in a tan interior FD, so I dont know what else is tan in the car.

If I had it to do over again....
I just finished doing my interior conversion. In an effort to save some cash, I tracked down all the necessary parts at salvage yards instead of paying insane dealer costs. Removing the interior panels is a snap, but let's just say replacing the carpet is a real b@!&%.
If you're getting a '93 you'll need carpet, seats, door panels, rear quarter panels, rear bins, rear hatch cover, and the headliner. The '94 and '95 cars have black panels, so I think all you'd need would be the carpet and seats (and maybe the headliner).
It was definitely worth every cent (and drop of sweat), but if I could do it over I'd just look for an FD with a black interior.

Converting it is easy. It's the time and effort and possibly the $$ that you will be throwing into it that's a real bitch just because you prefer one color over the other.
Like me for example, when I was shopping for my Silver FD, I wanted it with a black leather interior. I kept running into the ones with the Red interior. After about 6 months, I FINALLY found a good silver one with the black interior.
Think of it this way, if you buy an FD with a tan interior, you MAY be inclined to start throwing money at other mods as opposed to just changing your interior color.

Might I inquire as to why you switched the tan to black and would only look for a car with black leather?? Is it for personal reasons or something else??

A friend of mine bought a black 94 FD. Like my Montego 94, the only things in the car that are tan are the seats and carpet. He got black leather seats for about $400 and had a guy do the carpet in black for another $400. If you're gonna do it, a 94 would be a heck of a lot easier.

Thanks for the info.
