I think people get the idea supras can't handle that well on a road course, but with some suspension mods etc, they can handle very well, and can compete with an FD. A supra for some reason can't do well at all on an auto-x course.

powerwise, i've seen/read about supras with stock blocks (pistons/rings) making well into the 800rwhp range.

My personaly opinion is the RX7 is a better car FOR ME.

My Favorite supra is the 2nd gen from 1985ish. I LOVE those supras!! Fender flares, 8" wide wheels, double spoiler, inline 6 motor. Those are great!!

Well thanks for all your opinions. I was thinking if i would buy an RX-7 it would be a daily driver, so from your responses I dont think that would be a good idea. The thing is I love the looks of the RX-7 and the engine without the problems but i just dont know what to pick. Again thank you very much for your opinions. Im more into drag racing and 1/4 mile times so the handling wouldnt be a problem in my desicion.

i love the rx7 because of the vibrationless of the rotary engine, which supra owners will never experience...

I too will have to agree with the rest of the people here. The Rx-7 is a maintenance hog if not properly taken care of, as for the Supra, it can take abuse and still run great. Don't get me wrong though, the rotary engine can take abuse but only to a certain point, then its an investment in a whole new one.
Personnaly I love the Rx-7 and am willing to invest in one. I have a second Gen right now. When I can afford a 3rd gen (maintence and mods; the car I can) then I will get it

I had the same decision to make and am very glad that I decided on the RX-7. It is my daily driver for now until I get my POS daily. I've had no problems and can see that if all the preventitive maintainance is done on these cars that you shouldn't have any problems unless you beat the hell out of it on a daily basis. But the Supra is one hell of a machine. Both are very well designed cars and both are capable of embarrassing most any car you run into on the street. I would suggest test driving both and make your decision from there. That's how I did it. It's only fair because they do feel totally different from each other. Best of luck to you.

BoostedRex: get a Civic and put a Prelude v-tec engine with exhaust (not a fart pipe) intake and headers. Pretty quick yet still economical with gas

yeah.....

I've noticed surfing the boards that there's a lot of commaderie (spelling?) between RX7 owners. I suppose it's the feeling of knowing that the other guy has worked his *** off because he loves the car just like you do. In the end, IMHO it's a real crapshoot. If you gave me 30 grand I honestly wouldn't be able to choose, at least not right away.

You could ask the experts on every forum, but in the end I guess it's just up to whatever you feel comfortable LIVING with. Notice I said LIVING with, not just DRIVING with. Whichever car is truly right for you. Hell, I know a guy who set out to get a corvette and ended up with a Jetta and used the remaining 20 grand to pay for a pool and a new deck for his house. yup, just my .02

I really like Supra and was looking into both cars bofore I purchased my 7. I like what everyone has wrote but... Where are these fast supras? Yes I see them on the street but look at the track... The 5 of the top ten 7 pro class imports draggers are rotarys. The Fastest (not to includ the V8 Celica that ran 7.012 at 202 MPH) is a 3rd gen 7 13B that ran a 7.023 at 199MPH. That is damn fast and way the hell faster than any Supra I have heard of. If I am mistaken then please correct me. But it is disapointing to here so many of you say that they can be made faster.

Just my opinion.

if we can compete with a V8 with only 2 rotors.............imagine with 3

True power,
i had to make the same decision which i chose rx7 and i am looking for one right now,. yes you can find 7's for 12ks to 17ks and supra tts are like 25K+ but at the end they cost the same even though rx7 is going to cost you more for maintainance... I drove both cars been to seven stock talked to a lot of great 7 people and i chosed the & becuase i dont have alot of cash to spend on a car and i need a fast car ASAP so i went for the rx7, as far as handling goes rx7 rocks, but it cost more to make it faster, cause u need to spend alot of time and care and maintain the car, but as far as supra Tt goes with little mod you can have a really really fast like up to 500hp car, and there is little or even no maintainance.... if i had the money i would have gotten me both, the supra tt for daily uses, the rx7 for weekends

Okay listen up kiddies. Anybody who bases thir judgment on a car that is provided by a tuner in a drag event is full of BS. Mainly because it's quite damn obvious why everyone chooses the rx-7 shell, it's because it's so damn light! And who cares since it's running in a straight line! I mean for gosh sakes! I don't drive a stripped down **** every single damn day (daily driver) and I don't think neither will any of you. Think about it...

Supras have big asses (literally) and even stripping down that body can prove to be a troublesome chore when you can get one already that is just shy of 2800 lbs.

Im pretty torn, I looked at supras till my friend's brother let me drive his 3rd gen (it has all kinds of stuff done to it) that he says dynos around 400rwhp. There is almost no vibration in the 7, and I loved it, Im obsessed now. But because Ive seen what you have said about its daily driving reliability I may go with the supra just because of the maintainance. If my car is in the shop Ill have no way to get to school every day. So Im gonna find a supra to drive and then make my descision.

Daily Driver, 115K, not a SINGLE problem so far Only maintenance is oil changes and timing belt at 80K other than that not a single dime has been spent due to mechanical probs, oh tires, yea I forgot to mention tires are expensive

C'mon guys, they look pretty good too, not to mention the top is removable

They got a nice *** I'll give you that much

It's a raw machine for sure, only problems to me are that they are so expensive, there are so many automatics, and the front kind of looks plain, not to mention they're heavy. But crap what they don't have in drive feel and looks they make up with reliability. But I don't see how an 7 that costs 14k is going to eventually cost as much as a supra at 25k...i mean what in the hell is gonna cost you around 11k in maintenance? Even a new motor, turbos would cost you 7k...and eventually the supra will need a rebuild as well (i'd imagine nobody wants a supra with only 50% power)

I definitely think supras look a lot better without the spoiler, nice car! One of the best things about owning an FD is that there seriously is a major bond between fellow FD owners. We all stick together and really help each other out. One time I was about to make a left turn and this guy on a bike stops in front of me and comes up to my window to tell me he had one too. We ended up chilling for about half an hour (he lived down the street) just talking about our cars and what we've done to them, ideas about mods, etc. This kind of comradarie is a sort of a byproduct, ironically, of all the maintenance, because in order to own an FD you really have to love it and everyone who owns one knows this. Its pretty rare to run into some snot-nosed kid who just rags on his car and doesn't care about it and just wants to look cool, because those types quickly realize they got the wrong car and end up selling it with a blown engine to someone who will restore it and take care of it the right way. At the same time we see people like that asking about FDs on the Forum and when we sense it we steer them away, knowing it takes a special kind of owner to take care of them. Maybe its a good thing, maybe its a bad thing, but what can I say? I love my car.

They are different niche vehicles. The RX-7 is a true sports car designed around light weight and handling. They are a bit temperamental, but a sportscar is suppose to be. The Supra is an absolute muscle car. With a BPU set up, the Supra is a match for exotics in a straight line. I prefer the 7, but the Supra has some endearing qualities. The real question is why do people by exotics when they could have a 7 and a Supra?

Insureance is less on a 4-seater, regardless of the actual capacity of the vehicle.

I have driven both cars, and have to say that a Supra doesn't handle like a sports car at all....definite straight line car. The engine itself is great. I don't mind Supras if you want to drag it...but for overall use, I would rather have a 7.

One drive in a 3rd gen and it was all over for me. There isn’t a purer sports car out there. It’s totally balanced in all areas. It doesn’t need an assload of HP to perform like a supra, and it has unbelievable handling. Not to mention it’s storage capacity isn’t too shabby for its size. There’s nothing more gratifying than going WOT, feeling the turbo kick in, and watching that tachometer swing all the way to 8000. The biggest weakness the rx-7 has is the maintenance. I’m looking past that though, because I love to be totally involved with my car so I won’t mind the maintenance. Plus, the performance that comes out of the car is totally amazing. When it comes to styling, rx-7 wins hands down. Its lines just flow and everything just fits. The Supra is a little tall and wide for my liking. It’s kind of like a Japanese Corvette when it comes to the bulkiness of the car. However, the supra is the one car that actually looks good with a towering wing. I’ve found that Rx-7 owners have a certain respect for their car and a certain respect for other owners. I have not met an rx-7 owner who isn’t totally friendly. Every one I’ve seen is very complimentary of the other’s car and is always sharing something else you can do to improve upon your investment. Some Supra owners are jackasses and just drive the ***** off their car and don’t really care about abusing it. I’m not saying all Supra owners are like that but I’ve certainly met a few. Imoho, Rx-7’s are for the people who love a totally balanced car. They also tend to look at the car’s strengths enough to forget about it’s shortcomings in the reliability department. Supras are more for the person who really doesn’t want to upkeep the car all the time and loves straight line speed. You couldn’t go wrong with either car. It’s pretty much all about what fits you best. In my case, I drove an rx-7, fell in love with it, and I haven’t looked back yet. That’s my super-long $.02. lol.
Peace,
Zach

There is a quote out there and I'm trying to remember..I read it a few weeks ago on some post....

"mistreat your FD and your 7 will do terrible things for you. Treat your 7 with respect and it will love you back in a way that only FD owners could ever understand."

Quick Reply: Supras - RX-7
