Supra or Rx7...should i trade in?

I have come to a conclusion.....i love my FD but its getting to be too expensive...i have talked to a dealer about a 98 TT targa Supra.....i might trade my 93 7 in for $10,000. The Supra is 29900, that is extremely high so i must talk him down into the 24000 range or i will not get it..I need someone to either smack the hell out of me or cheer me on.....be cruel...please..

Personally, I wouldn't trade my FD in on a Supra. If I was going to get rid of it, the only cars I would look to trade for would be either a Vette or a NSX.

If you like the Supra and don't want to mess with your FD anymore, go for it.

If you are at Burger King and ask: whats better the whopper or the Big Mac?. The answer is obvious. Myself even that the Sup.TT is some what faster, Is priceless when people compare my FD with a Viper.

29K for a 98supraTT is already a good price...if it has average miles...there should be no way in hell you will be able to talk them down to 24K...

if your rx7 is in good running condition, reinstall all the stock components, make it look clean, take lots of pics of it, then u should be able to sell it on ebay or autotrader for way more than 10k. you can probably eventually find someone who will buy it for 14-15k. also, if doesnt make much of a difference to you, you can just get a 94-95 6speed tt for about 20-22k pretty easily

jon mitrosky,

Did you contact Rotary Performance in Manassas about that leak that your experincing? I would keep the FD myself, but that is a good price on the TT SUPRA. I kept my FC TURBO and purchased 2001 Droptop Corvette " Semper Fi" leatherneck

I love my third gen. Supras are just too bulky and plain for my taste. They're like Japanese muscle cars.

as others have said:

*If reasonable miles and condition, a 98 TT for $30k is a very good price already.

*You should be able to get more than $10k for your 93 on the private market if the engine and turbos are decent.

*A 94-95 TT is better than a 98TT. Toyota dropped the price on the Supra $10k in 1996 and did some cost-cutting measures to the car.

*You're trading in your pure sports car for a powerful GT.

I am thinking the same thing as you jon. I've put a ton of money into my car and don't care to put a ton more into it. Especially for parts that go out and aren't hop up mods. If I get a chance I think I'll eventually go Supra too.

If you can get what deal you want on the Supra then go ahead. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone on your thinking.

go with the Supra. reasons??...

-the r word
-insane hp for less money
-better interior quality, and better overall build quality
-the exhaust note of the 2JZ
-insane highway accleration
-played the starring role in a hit movie. (lol....just kidding! )
-higher torque and hp potential than the RX-7
-more rare than the RX-7 (the TT)
-bigger trunk
-youll be hard pressed to find one on its second, or third, or fourth, of fifth engine in it, unlike the RX-7
-youll be hard pressed to find one without its original turbos (if they have not been chucked out for a single/big twins)
-one of the most powerfull cars to ever come out of Japan
-it is still the ricers dream car, unlike the RX-7 where all the ricers have had their dreams come true already
-every ricer bites off the look. "Supra wing", and a majority of rear end convervions envolve Supra tail lights
-a nicer *** than the RX-7 (IMO)

downsides:

-not as capable at the autocross curcuit (boo-hoo! who gives a **** about going around in circles in a parking lot at 30 mph making overly tight radius turns anyways??)
-the RX-7's front end looks better, IMO.
-dont have the connected feel to the road as the RX-7

the pros outweight the cons....by a little.

just my .02, and i already have my brand new 2003 model Flame Suit 9000 with matching helmet on.

(true)

(yes but the interior is freeze dried *** looking)

-the exhaust note of the 2JZ
(yes)

-insane highway accleration
(we can do that too)

( yeah but that car looked like FDA..freeze dried ***)

-higher torque and hp potential than the RX-7
( hey it's 3.0 v6..what do you expect)

-more rare than the RX-7 (the TT)
(yeah but you could be mistaken for NA)

-bigger trunk
( deeper that is)

-youll be hard pressed to find one on its second, or third, or fourth, of fifth engine in it, unlike the RX-7
(ok give you that one)

-youll be hard pressed to find one without its original turbos (if they have not been chucked out for a single/big twins)
(yeah yeah)

(yeah yeah)

(tell me about it)

-every ricer bites off the look. "Supra wing", and a majority of rear end convervions envolve Supra tail lights
-a nicer *** than the RX-7 (IMO)
(I dont know that..dont see many rear ends of supra..too busy in front of them..j.k)

Hey in my experience no matter what car you start tunning and ****** with your going to have problems. Its just a good Idea to find a car your happy with driving, and fits all your needs. Then if you tune it prepare for the problems

Have u actually looked inside the hatch of a Supra?... it only looks big from the outside but once you pop that hatch open, it's not really any more room than the FD's hatch. You can stack like 2 textbooks in there... it's like 2 inches deep! (haha ok maybe i'm exaggerating).

According to www.edmunds.com and some various other sites online, the Supra only has 10.1 cu. ft. of luggage capacity? That doesn't sound right either but my roomate used to have one and he always threw his garbage in my hatch... FD supposedly has 17 cu. ft. which still sucks but I think the FD actually has more room none the less.

Heh, so if luggage space is a concern, go with the FD!

im sorry about the trunk space statement. i have never researched that (nor do i really care about the size of a trunk) but as i quote jimlab:

"Damn near bulletproof, and you can still wax other cars while carrying huge amounts of weight. I had 500+ lbs. of bushing parts in my car and blew the doors off an MR2 Turbo that just wouldn't leave me alone. I also delivered an RX-7 5-speed in the hatch of my Supra, and could have probably stacked a couple more in there. Try that with an RX-7... a 17 inch monitor has to ride in the passenger's seat. "

from that statement, im assuming the Supra has a significantly larger trunk. if not, then i retract my statement.

but i dont really care about trunk space, nor should any performance oriented automove enthusiats, but i just added that as another pro for the Supra.

no no no....in women, i like their asses small and tight!

but in cars...there is something about big asses that turns me on. Porsche 911 Turbos (even the pre-993 model) all have huge fender flares and gorgeous asses. Diablos...big assed, and very nice! same with the older 512TR Ferrari. it is blessed with a healthy ***, and i find it very attractive. i find the Supra to be right up with the nicest of all asses in the automotive world.

but the front is a whole other story. it still has not grown on me, and i find it straight up *gulp* FUGLY!

no, fold down the rear seats and Supra>FD's luggage space.

are you serious? Stock Supra looks much hotter then a 7. Best body kit? Most expensive? The RE kit for the 7 is *** ugly, ABFlugs Supra kit isnt nice but much nicer looking then the RE.

----

I dont know what you're all smoking but If i had the money I would be an MKIV Supra TT owner right now.. Go with the supra buddy
