Angry sudden transmission failure

Search feature down at my worst time. Just for no reason I can not move shifter into reverse. No problems with all forward gears. I plan to take car to a rotary speciality shop but would really like to know from someone in the group what you think has happened. It's as if the linkage has broken, not clutch or syncro problem.

Try putting it in fourth first, and then try reverse. (No need to be gentle either show that transmission who da man!)

If you start having problems putting into the other gears, it most likely is your release bearing fork that needs to be replaced.
