Im having some issues with my idle, sometimes randomly my idle will drop and come back up then drop again, and itll do this until I hold the throttle at idle for a while then it stops, but itll do it again maby not the next time I stop but itll happen again. Just a little backround for you, I put a jdm engine in the car and while taking the connector off the tps (I think thats what its called) on the throttle body it broke so I put the one from the origanal engine on but other than that the cars basicly the same as when I got it. So what do you guys think it could be?

 

Did you adjust the TPS after you installed it?

EDIT: Did you replace the TPS itself or just the connector on the harness to the TPS?

 

My idle was dancing like this too. Turns out my LIM gasket was blown to hell and air was sneaking past the throttle body. Absolutely sucked to change out too. You can check the integrity of yours by spraying brake or TB cleaner near the gasket while the car is running. If its not sealing properly, you'll heard a dip in rpms when you spray. I'd also suggest checking the ISC (pull it off, check the gasket, clean the inside with TB cleaner, re-lube it with WD-40, and re-install). I've heard of guys who had this work for them. I know the ISC wasn't the problem for me since I don't have one.

 

I replaced the whole throttle body part on the uim, so you think I need to adjust my tps. Ill have to do it when I get home for christmas as my parents have my meter at the moment.

 

If the TPS itself is ever removed, then yes it needs to be adjusted once it's reinstalled. If the TPS was never removed from the throttle body (i.e. you swapped in an entire throttle body with that TPS already attached), you may or may not need to adjust it. It just depends on what condition it was in before you got it. Having said, that, it wouldn't be a bad idea to test it to verify it is calibrated properly.

Also, if you are using a different throttle body, you'll probably need to go through the whole idle setup (with the adjustment screws and such) for it on your car.
