RotaryFDTT, sorry to rain on your parade but thought I would ask a question in your thread...if the UIM gasket was metal (1994 R2) does that mean that the lower is metal too? the reason I am asking is because I have my UIM off right now and the gasket between the UIM gasket is metal...BUT the basket between the UIM and TB was paper (got a metal one)

Thanks

David

charcoal canister

Has anyone though of the charcoal canister as a possible culprit? A three month sit time would be nice and long for fuel vapors to build up in the canister, and evacuating these would be difficult. If the vapors build up too much, or the filter is so old it cannot retain vaporzed fuel, it will start to let the vapors out the bottom of the canister (that's what the hose on the bottom is for). Might this be 'yalls problem?
where is this canister mounted under the car? part number?

Found it. To all that where keeping track. It was a one way check valve in the vacuum line for the brake booster. The valve openes the booster to vacuum but closes it to boost. Boost was going to the booster and blowing in at the brake pedal

My response

This is the best piece of information yet!!!!
I did a complete hose job and replaced the brake booster hose without knowing about the check valve and I have been chasing the gas smell ever since. Since I always save my old hoses, it just took me three seconds to fix a demon I have been chasing for a week.

THANK YOU
