stripped hub stud

using some air tools to get the lug nut off/on of the stud on the right rear wheel, the stud apparently partially stripped out.
when taking it off it was coming off somewhat difficultly and when we tried to put it back on it stopped about 1/2 inch short of where it needs to seat.

wondering what to do now b/c ive never been in this situation with one of these studs.

can i rethread it somehow or how can i get it off to really do that?

does it just pop out the back or how is it all attached??

TIA!

just replace it... should be no more than 5 bucks. It's not welded on or anything so it shouldnt be too difficult to remove.

To get to the stud, put the car on jack stands and remove the wheel. Then, remove the brake caliper from the rotor. Slide the rotor out, and you'll be ready to remove the stud. You'll need a 3-5lb hammer to bang it out. Should be just a 30 minute to 1 hour job. Dont forget to have some WD 40 handy

Rethreading a stripped stud is a pain in the *** and carries no guarantees. Just make sure you get the same size stud that has the same thread as your lug nut.

I have a broken one I am replacing this week. You have to remove the whole spindle/wheel bearing and have it all pressed out. There is not room between the spindle and hub to press or bang the stud out while installed on the car. It's obvious if you pull the rotor and look at the studs; there is absolutely no room to push them out without removing the entire spindle.

See pages M12-M13 in the manual.

Be ready to replace the wheel bearing, the race will seperate from the bearing and will have to be ground off the hub. Cost is around $60.00

Hope this helps,
Dan

what a bitch.....

i knew it would be. im thinking i might take it to RP b/c i dont want to risk bending the hub at all. that is really going to suck taking it all off and putting in a new bearing. and the nut for the hub is ON there from what ive seen in the FSM.

well thanks guys.....any other info about what all has to go into this would be helpful and will help me decide whether or not i tackle it myself.
