Question street port fuel question

Hi, at the moment, my car is in for a rebuild and i am curious about getting a street port. i know that the larger i go for in regards to porting, the less likely it is for my stock ecu to provide enough fuel.

so the question is, if i get street port (id say small to mild in size) while leaving the rest of the car stock, will a Apexi Super Air Flow Converter suffice in providing sufficient fuel? or if i dont change my stock ecu what problems might i face?

i know there are some other threads but alot of those people have quite a few other mods, any help would be greatly appreciated

If you do a mild street port, I would recommend getting an upgraded ecu from pettit or M2. The apexi may work, but I am not that familiar with it. Stand alone units are always safer than piggy back units like the apexi.

i know upgraded ecu's are the best option, but in perth (australia) we dont get those ecu's. perhaps one of the workshops can retune the fuel maps in the stock ecu?

The SAFC should have enough of a range of adjustability to dial in any necessary adjustments but I'm generally more inclined to use a piggyback on a car that is less finicky than the FD. The SAFC essentially works by playing with the MAP sensor signal that is sent to the ECU and since the stock ECU is already kind of on the bubble as far as reliability is concerned, tweaking it through external means probably isn't the best idea.

If you're willing to drop the cash then the Apexi Power FC is the way to go--it completely replaces the stock ECU.

hmmmm, but isnt a pfc a bit steep for just a port, i understand that a pfc is worlds apart from the safc but with just a port i shouldnt need the extra functionality of the pfc, im mostly concerned with whether or not i will run into problems, ie ones that cannot be fixed via just fuel maps, or problems with compatability and stock ecu

I thought messing with ports required a stand alone?
You can try it without, but then your rotary gets alot more "unreliable"

How bout you try it your wat and let us know what happens. Cause it seems like no one has tryed this.

Although that may be for a good reason. Personaly i would atleast uprgade the ECU, but i would put the extra cash down for the PFC cause if you plan on doing more moding in the future than it is a good thing to have

Good luck
