Question Street port and fuel pump?

My car is in the shop getting a streetport done and I have about an extra 5-700 $ to invest(actually spend) and want to know what my best bets are. My mods are: y-pipe, intercooler piping, apexi intake, dp, mp, cb, pfc, boost and a/f guage and tons of other mods that are irrelevant to the question. I have a few concerns to take into consideration:

1. Do I need a fuel pump w/ my mods and a street port. If so, can I get away w/ out purchasing a rrfpr?
2. Will less restrictive pills in the wastegate be enough or do I need to port the wastegate to combat boost spikes?
3. An intercooler is out of my budget right now, should I fear detonation?

Any maps would also be helpful.

Thanks

Joel

Even at "just" 12 psi I felt I needed the fuel pump with very similar mods to your's. The car seemed flat above 5k. That being said you really need an IC. I suppose you could keep the boost down to combat the heat but you really need an IC. Did I mention you really need an IC?

So let's see, an IC for sure, if you are gonna run 13 psi or more you need the pump and some injectors. If you are seq I would worry about spikes especially with the midpipe.

Hope it helps,
Andrew

Let me guess, i need an intercooler, lol! Well, i will get one eventually, probably christmas present to me or something like that.... Actually @ over 1k I might be waiting till march as im tapped....... So I take it I run a strong risk of detonation, but with a light foot and <12psi I should be ok right? I ordered a nippondenso fuel pump so potentially running out of fuel should not be an issue now w/ my boost levels... I had slight boost creep before porting so I'm assuming this will only get worse. Do you guys think smaller pills will resolve this or do I need to get the waste gate ported while the damn thing is apart..... I guess future plans will be to get an intercooler and injectors and then turn up the boost a tad...... Im looking for 330-350 rwhp after intercooler, injectors and ignition.... Sound feasible?

It is good that you got a fuel pump, that is what I would have recommended. You don't need a RRFPR.

Keeping the boost low will help avoid boost creep, but the only way to get rid of it if you experience it is to add some restriction (like a plate with a 2.5" hole in the exhaust) or port the wastegate. Boost creep happens with the wastegate all the way open, so changing the control with pills won't change anything.

you have basically the same mods that I do and the same questions also

ADVISE: now that your motor and turbos are out port the wastegate as much as it can be
this should cost you very little extra since the turbos are off the car

I wish I would have known to get mine done when I was having a rebuild. its my fault for not being prepared and knowlegdable before the rebuild and also the shops fault for not leading me in the right direction and telling me all the options.

You NEED a fuel pump to run 13psi and more
you can keep your old one at 12 psi but thats the limit

I think having the stock IC and running over the stock 10 psi you could fear detonation. I am in the same situation and am just going to run 13 psi since I just installed my fuel pump today! I think that it is possible to get detonation but I am not going to worry about it, at 13psi it shouldnt really happen but anything more I would be worried.

My final notes: GET THE WASTEGATE PORTED!!!
dont even think twice it will hold you back in the future modding and cause so many problems for you to worry about if you dont

BTW where is the motor being rebuilt?
you should have them change the fuel filter and clean the injectors, also ALL other fluids and then keep the rpms down below 3 or so the first 500 miles and then below 4.5 the rest of the 1000 mile breakin. Just don't boost too much a little boost is good I would say the second 500 miles boost to under 5 psi
you prob know this already im just saying...

Thanks Snook! I am getting the rebuild done @ a local shop called Mazsport. The guy there is very proficient and I trust him w my car. Since the car was stolen and blown, I am definately going to drop the fuel and change the filter when the time comes. I'm trying not to give the shop too much little stuff because it is much cheaper if I do it in the end...... Since I've only spent $260 of the $5-$700 extra I've put aside I think I will definately port the waste gate..... BTW, do I have to change the pills for breakin or can I just lower the boost w/ the PFC? Well, I guess I'm just getting excited I know my mechanic will tell me what to do and severly punish me if I don't follow.....

porting the wastegate shouldn't cost you that much money at all it takes just a few minutes with the proper tools you just make the hole that is there a 1/2 inch wider or so with a dremel tool. the thing that costs a lot is taking out the wastegate and turbos and those are already out for the rebuild. You don't have to lower the boost your foot can be the boost controller for the breakin period. Just don't go wot at all. Drive around slowly and accelerate slowly like you have a cup of water in the trunk that you don't want to spill
that will let everything wear in and get oiled properly
