strange rattling noise from trans area

I hear this rattling type of noise from under my car / trans area. at first i thought it was because of low gear oil but thats filled to the right level now. It continues to make the noise at idle and im not fully sure where its coming from . I doubt its my engine but im really not sure. anyone haev any tips ? sounds like its coming from the bell housing area

It's probably your catalytic coverter heat shield...that is if you still have one. Mine always rattles when the idle changes when I turn the A/C on...

Then maybe it's the trans cover...does it sound like a metal shield type of rattle or some other odd sound of rattle...

Your best bet would be to pay a local shop $10 bucks to lift your car up for 5 minutes and see where it's coming from... It always pays to be cool with a local shop, especially when these stupid little problems arrise...owning an FD requires me to put it up on a hoist atleast once a week.

So let me get this straight...you're under the car with the Engine on and the rattling is coming from the bellhousing area...I'm assuming it's not from the cover, did you remove the cover to get it out of the equation?

Probably a long shot but, maybe you have one of the bellhousing bolts loose in there that's rattling...I've seen it happen before from a bad clutch job (mechanic didn't tighten one bolt cause it was hard to reach).

What I would do after having no luck would be to get one of those stethoscope type of things for cars, and carefully find the noise...they sell it at parts stores.

Sorry, maybe someone else can chime in too...

Oh wait! Does it only happen when your clutch pedal is out??

Could be the flywheel...

actually, my clutch isn't bled yet (my car just had engine put back in) and i think its the throw out bearing rattling around because theres no pressure on the clutch at all. anyone agree ?

Maybe, but there is also a heat shield on the top of your tranny, check that. While your engine is running just push the fork with your fingers and see if that stops the noise.
