Question Stock turbos pushing 16-17lbs!!

I've had FD RX-7's in the past, all stock sequential turbo's with mods. This one is pushing 13-14 lbs on first turbo and 16-18 lbs on second turbo. All I want to know,is this safe for my engine?? And if not,can I easily adjust the boost on the Greddy Boost controller?
The mods are:
SS 3" Downpipe
Apexi Super AFC Fuel Controller
Greddy B-spec Boost Controller(with low and high boost set half way and balance set all the way on sharp)
Street Port Intake and Exhaust
3G Sequential System Upgrade
All work done 10 years ago by Excellent Performance Ft. Lauderdale,FL.
I would appreciate anybody's help on this!
Thanks!

It's pretty much impossible to determine safety without AFR's.

I'd hold at 14psi maxx for the stock turbos. Anything more and those guys are just working way to hard.

without a PFC to add/control fuel your going to pop that motor.. you cant run more than 12psi on the stock fuel system/injectors safe. are you sure your hitting those boost levels ? the stock ecu will go into fuel cut above 12 psi.... I dont think your boost readings are correct they must be lower than your gauges are showing or your motor would have blown

^What he said. If you are on the stock fuel system (injectors, fuel pump), you don't have enough fuel to safely support those boost levels. Turbo life will be decreased at those boost levels also fwiw.

Ditch the super AFC, buy a Power FC & a wideband. Have the car tuned.

Your engine is in danger while running those boost levels on stock fuel. It may run fine now, but all it needs is a cool night or degraded gasoline.... & BOOM..

Thanks For the info!! I'm not for sure exactly what all mods are on the car. It runs fine at those boost levels. VERY FAST!!! But I don't want to blow a motor!! My first move will be an APEXi Power FC.

With a main stock cat, you should be able to control your boost. Either your boost controller isn't working, or it isn't set properly.

You can boost 16-17 psi, but you can't do it safely at higher rpms. There just isn't enough fuel. I wouldn't go wide open over 5K with things as they are.

The boost issue should be correctable. Don't risk blowing your motor.

I am sure its fast !, but I am sure at those boost levels you are running lean!.. remember "leaner is meaner LOL" so it may run well and fast until it pops. listen to the people here your are flurting with desaster.. lower the boost learn about the car and mod it right you will be happy instead of sorry.

Are you sure it's the stock ECU and not remapped (Petit etc)?

If it's really been running this setup for 10 years, maybe there is a rising rate fuel pressure regulator or something else done for reliability

How do you know?
I would get the measurement from another instrument..... Those numbers are hard to believe; by like 5 psi if the modifications are as listed.

Pushing 17 psi through a stock cat is like running 18.5 psi with a midpipe - that's crazy with your mods and pump gas

Wow. A super AFC and almost 20 psi? You're on borrowed time my friend... do you often wonder why it sounds like someone's making popcorn at WOT?

I doubt that thing has been running like that for 10 years. Some component involved with boost control has probably **** the bed recently.

i'm surprised no one has told you to stop driving the car (I understand why the engine builders haven't!). I wouldn't drive it. And before you drive again, I'd run your boost pressure lines so that the wastegate and precontrol see max pressure and you have rock bottom boost.

good luck.

Agree with arghx. Check to see if the ECU has been replaced/upgraded. Pull the kickpannel and see if there is a pettit sticker on there.

16-17psi is a lot... but it's been done on stock fuel before... cause I've done it with pretty much the same parts as listed... along with a pettit ecu.

Wickedly fast? Yes. Dangerous as hell? Absolutely. Am I still on the same motor... no.

Even with a Pettit ECU, I wouldn't run the boost levels the OP is running on pump gas (we're talking about pump gas right?). I called Pettit before buying my ECU and was told to limit boost to 12-13 psi on pump gas.

We don't; US gas is RON+MON/2
