stock temp gauge beeping and lighting problem

stock temp gauge beeping and lighting problem
i took the UIM off jsut recently to do some fuel system fixes.
when i installed the uim back on and started the car, the light on the dash stayed on, and it kept beeping.
the needle moves as the temps go up. no water spilled from when i had the UIM off, because i bypassed the water hoses going to the throttle body.
water is full.
i thought that the level sensor in front on top of the water pump housing might have broken, but it was intact.
any suggestions?
