Question Stock mounting HKS SSQV question...

I recently acquired a used HKS SSQV kit for my FD. Anyhow I hooked up the vacuum hoses and it works great but I can't figure out how to mount it. It comes with a metal L-shaped clip with a hole to put a screw/bolt through. I can't really find anywhere in the engine bay in the airbox area where this will mount easily and since I don't have instructions with the kit I'm kind of lost. I searched the site and I'm sure if I spend a couple days working on it I can figure something out but maybe someone has a suggestion in the meantime Thanks, -Joe

Well since the motor does move in the bay unless you have a torque brace why would you mount it to the car? Why not just get a stiffer hose and let it just "chill" there?

Letting it just sit there? That's how almost every by-pass valve is. If you don't like it, get the flange and weld it to a hardpipe.

yeah but I'm sure there's a way to mount it to the chassis of the car - it doesn't have to touch the engine and that way it'll be nice and solid and not jumping around or have the chance to have the air blocked by the BOV moving around into something...

If you're trying the mount the BOV to the body of the car.. how long is this hose? it should be minimal.

just get a small hose that can connect the BOV to where the stock Bypass valve went so that it just holds them together. The BOV will be ok there and wont move around... (does not look ghetto at all). Unless you have an intercooler or something... you can just weld a flange to one of the charge pipes.

I said that and it was called ghetto. It's so light it doesn't need to be secured more then that. that's just overkil.

It uses the stock hoses - the silicon vacuum hose and a rubber tube coming off the y-pipe...both are minimal.

I agree I can just leave it there but it's a FD-specific kit so it's made to mount somewhere. If I don't mount it then I'll have to take it apart anyway to take off the L-shaped mount on it. Just makes sense to do it right the first time. I looked online for the manual but no one has it that I can see.

Edit: The HKS SSQV actually weighs quite a bit, it's all metal.

Thanks for the suggestions though

Just trying to help, sorry. I have seen many ssqv's installed with no brackets, assuming it was correct.

Hey no worries, like I said any suggestion is welcome. I've seen them welded before but I've never seen the kit installed so other than hooking up the air lines I don't have much clue as to where to mount it. I heard on another forum it's on the firewall so maybe I'll look around that area. Anyhow if anyone else knows, do share! lol

just find a bracket or some sort closest to the area where you want the BOV. I'd look at my car and pick a spot but im too lazy to go to the garage and its hella cold in there. Most bolt holes that bracket things to the frame are 10mm bolt holes. Just find a near the area you want the BOV to be in and just mount the L clip between the bolt and whatever the hell its holding to the frame.

Well I can't really drive the car around since it's technically "stored" because of salt, etc. But from what I can hear it sounds great and it seems to hook-up really well. Made of great quality and since I got a good deal I figured I could just get it now and if I upgrade my turbos later I'll have a nice unit that will work well. PS for those wondering I think I figured out where to mount it. I was talking to a good guy on another forum and he said that the bracket is meant to fit under one of the bolts that's used to keep the 4 relays bolted to the inside fender. I'll try it out in a couple days but it makes sense.

Here's the "ghetto" install. There's no problem just letting it sit there.

I have mine mounted on the lower bolt hole where the four relays are hooked up to that bracket, very close to where railgun has his "chillin". I had the same problem that everyone does, it would move around, and although it's absolutely fine like that, I decided a bracket would need to be fabricated just in case. I went to home depot and just bought a thin piece of aluminum thats thin enough to flex into shape, but stiff enough to hold the valve. just drilled some holes in it, bent it to the right shape, then voila. I have a different intake setup though, I have the cheaper HKS intakes, and they utilize the stock rubber hoses. Anyways, the L bracket that comes with the HKS valve is supposed to mount to a bolt hole that is on the Y pipe, right above the BOV opening. The hose that it comes with is very short, and is also shaped like an L. I decided to move the BOV a bit further away from the Y-pipe, just thinking that there is a bit too much heat near the area.

hmmmm interesting - thanks for the information. I'll check out the y-pipe for the bolt hole also. I figure I might as well use the bracket since I got one with it. Plus it sounds like it did some good after you fabricated your's. Anyhow, thanks

You can see where I put mine. The thick hose that comes from the Y-Pipe keeps it pretty tight in that spot, and I got a good zip tie, and secured it down. Doesnt move at all, and sounds great.
