Stock FD wing removal.

I'm going to paint my Mazdaspeed rep. hood this weekend and I have more than enough paint for it so I decided to paint my sorry looking mirrors and wing. The mirrors should be straight forward but is there any thing to know about the wing. I'm guessing some bolt or nut removal but is there any hidden clips or double sided tape to deal with? It may be the decisive factor in weather I paint it on the car ( because the under side is fine ) or remove it and do it the right way.

Thanks.

I just installed a factory wing on my 93 Touring, and it should be very easy to remove. You will have two screws on the outside of the wing on both sides, and the inside mounts use a small nut (6-8mm i think), and a plastic snap-in clip. Shouldn't be too much trouble to remove.

Hey VRT, IS the wing you installed from a Mazda dealer or is it a aftermarket R1 style wing?

I wanted to know from some one that removed the factory installed spoiler if there was anything special to look for or if all you do is loosen some nuts/bolts and it lifts right off.

Going out to the car to take a look.

Getting that wing off is a piece of cake...it's putting it back on that's a royal pain. Good luck! It's a total of 4 bolts that need to come out, but visibility and space are limited.

Thanks for the pep talk. When I went outside to look at it I just went at it. 4 phillips head screws on the outter edge of the wing. 2 10 MM nuts that hold on the front edge of the inner supports and 2 plastic clips that hold on the rear of the inner supports. No double sided tape thank goodness. The Nuts Can only be reached after popping loose the plastic cover that covers the lower rear part of the hatch(many spring clips.). Did notice a very small patch of rust forming around the rear outer screw holes on the hatch. I will take care of this while the wing is off. Good to catch it now before it spread to an area visible outside the support bottoms.

Thanks for the help everyone...

The wing I installed was a factory R1 wing. I bought it used, and then bought new phillips screws from my local Mazda dealer. Glad to hear you got it off without much effort. Good luck
