Question STOCK FD: Blitz Water Temp Issues

I have just finished a build of a stock FD and when putting everything back on noticed that the wire leading to my water temp gauge (in the thermostat housing) is broken.

I've tried to reattach and/or troubleshoot this as now my gauge won't give a reading. i've tried coiling the original wire around the temp sensor and dropping it into a cup of boiling water but get no reading... which leads me to a few questions!

1. do Blitz temp gauges comes with that coil wire standard? or is it just something the previous owner has used.
2. can the hideous wire be replaced with standard wrapped electrical wire?
3. does the wire need to be soldered to the sensor need to be soldered on to work?

thanks anyone! nobody seems to talk about these blitz gauges on here!!
