Question stock bov

Can anyone explain to me how to modify the stock bov's to make them louder. i read that if they are released into the atmosphere, they are a lot louder. From what i understand, the stock setup puts the air back into the intake? im guessing i need to unhook some hoses, if anyone has any pics that would be awesome!!

the stock BOV doesn't sound that great releasing into the atmosphere. Sounds like a toilet flushing. If you want a good sound get an aftermarket BOV like and Apex-i or an HKS. Some of my friends have the Greddy BOV's but they aren't that loud

I think it sounded pretty good. There's a discussion about it in the West forum. It's pretty easy to do.

i believe i was the one who brought the BOV thing up in the West forum

basically, all you need to do is unhook the BOV from the hose which is between the BOV and the intake box

BOV is under the CRV if you look at it. you will probably have to unhook the CRV to get to the BOV.

remember to cap off the hole that leads to the intake, you dont want any unfiltered air in there

also make sure you hook up the CRV again, because from what i believe, it sucks air in. unlike the bov, which blows air out

EDIT: i did this myself, and im pretty happy with the results. i have not yet heard an aftermarket BOV, so stock BOV is the standard for me =p

a stock BOV vented into the atmosphere does not sound like a toilet flushing! It sounds almost as loud as a Turbo xs RFL. Ive had the HKS, it sounds great, but for $300? The stock BOV gets alot of attention, especially with 14psi of boost going through it.

palumbo's got an auto too. he seems to like it, so I'd assume that it still sounds pretty mean. I don't see how having an auto makes a difference in the first place.

Oh God..... It's threads like these that put me over the edge the other day.... It's so tempting........

IMO the stock BOV sounds great. It sounds simple and classic with no funny noises. Just disconnect the rubber hose on the left top side of the air box and then block up the hole and you'll be fine.

well you dont shift an automatic, unless yo are starting to go up a hill

the BOV makes its noisy debute when you let go of the gas.

usually when im crusing at 40-45, i wot it and gain maybe 2-3k rmps, then let go of the gas, doing that gets me a really loud blow. i do it when ricers are next to me =p

i dont suggest that, i dont think its good for the engine

but ya, its nice, its simple, try it out

I say just try it to see if it sounds good to you or not. Nobody can tell you what you're gonna like.

I vented mine this week-end and it sounds awesome!! And my FD is an Auto. No need to spend $$$ on aftermarket BOV, unless you want the Bling-Bling.

I just did it as well and it sounds well.. decent, pretty good for stock. Aftermarket BOVs do sound better, but it (stock BOV) sounds a lot better now, a good mod for cheap guys like me.

There is one more thing you can do to get a little more noise out or it. When you unhook the hose from the air box, route it out of the passenger side wheel well by cutting a hole it will fit through. Its thin plastic. This make it very interesting for peolpe to the right of you. I'll be driving along and see someone in say a converitble mustang (hehe). Lay into the gas enough to build boost then let out right as I pull even. Since its pretty much blowing straight at them they get the full effect and you always get the HOLY ****, WTF WAS THAT! look, priceless.

speaking of blowoff valves I have a problem.. my BOV has been louder than ever the past few weeks.. and for some reason my first turbo doesn't boost as hard as it did before... I haven't had the time to investigate yet but I was wondering if any of you guys had any ideas where I should start besides the BOV itself obviously.

I can hear the BOV leaking out air as my turbo begins to spool up... I rode in another guys 7 and I didn't even hear the BOV release air. It was a lot more quite... When I'm boosting past 5K rpms' my boost pressure drops... but I still feel boost when my second turbo kicks in... what is going on? Sound like a bad BOV? also what about the CRV? could that be a part of the problem?? thanks in advance

The BOV might be slightly open at idle and cruising speed. BOVs open/close depending on the amount of vacuum present, and if you are in vacuum, then the BOV may be partially open. Once you cross over from vacuum to boost, then your BOV should close.

I'm pretty sure it is open...it does not take a lot of vacuum to crack open a stock type BOV. I have a stock 3000GT VR4 BOV and I can make it open up by sucking on the vacuum nipple.

I dont see any problem with your BOV. Unless the noise is really bugging you or if you suspect an air leak when under boost, then IMO there is really no need to replace it.

Even some aftermarket BOVs have this same problem. The difference is you can adjust the tension on the BOV, so that it will be harder to open with light vacuum.

yeah it boost around 8psi initially, but pressure drops right after that while I'm accelerating... it puzzles me. I don't feel like I'm getting as much boost from the first turbo as I used to.. maybe I need some more mods

Uhm...no. Your blow off valve is fine, you have a turbo control system/vaccum hose problem. The last thing you need is more mods.
