Angry Stock alarm is a POS

Ok mine has been screwed up since it came back from the bodyshop last year. I have been to lazy to pull the door panle and fix whatever is wrong.
Now this thing has gone haywire. The other night it went off for no reason at all. I went out in the driveway and checked it. The doors were still locked and the alarm just decided to go off.
WTF is that all about???
Anyone ever run into this?

How old is your battery? An old battery will trigger the alarm to go off mysteriously. Try that first.

Any work done on the front end? The hood switch is pretty prone to failure/misadjustment.

LOL! I had the same thing happen to me. My FD was parked in the garage with the hood open and the doors locked. I kept waking up throughout the night hearing an alarm, but I kept thinking "Stoopid *** neighbors, why don't they go friggin turn their alarm off already?!" So it went off a bunch of times all night and I didn't realize it was my car until I opened the garage to drive to work to encounter... THE POSSESSED CAR! Sirens wailing, headlights flipping out, etc. My neighbors were lookin at me like I was a retard.

It's a new optima dry cell in the bin. So thats out.
I did get a CF hood last year so they adjusted the hood latch. That is worth looking into. I didnt realize that the hood latch was connected to the alarm though.

the hood latch has a small switch under the hook assembly. The wires plug into it from the passenger side. You have to pull the whole latch assembly to really see the switch. Might try just shorting the connector to see if this relieves the problem.

If it has a motion sensor then it was probably a cat sitting on the hood. It's like a warm cozy bed to them.

I had the same thing happen to My 93 FD/R-1.... I too had just gotten it back from the body shop... The doors where locked, the hood up to cool the engine and the horn was going off and the head lights popping up and down ... It was really weird... I unlocked the drivers door and it stopped. Hasn't happened since... that was a week ago... I too thought it was one of my neighbor's cars.... So, tell me again.. what's the fix??

I'd be happy if I could just get the damn thing to not arm when I lock the door. I've tried the supposedly effective trick of opening the door and locking it before turning off the engine...that effectively prevents the blinking alarm light, but my alarm still will go off at some random time in the middle of the night when I do that. The only way I can get my alarm to not go nuts is to leave the car unlocked. Which totally sucks for obvious reasons.

Why do you think the stock alarm is a POS? What features are so much better about aftermarket alarms?

If you lock the doors.. (arm the alarm) with the hood popped, the alarm will go off.
