stock airbox problems

Hey everyone. I've done some searches but couldn't find anything regarding this.

I was trying to remove a hose from the airbox so that I could access the Y-PIPE more easily. Problem is, the hose was on pretty tight and when I pulled it off, it actually snapped off the part of the airbox that it attaches to.

If you are looking down at the airbox from the front of the car, the hose I'm talking about is the 1" diameter hose to the right of the 3" hose, near the top of the box.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is there any way to fix it without replacing the box? Really strong glue? Is the hose even necessary or can I do without it?

If I have to replace it, I'll probably get an aftermarket one. But I'm worried the emissions people won't like it. I live in Northern VA and they are pretty strict.

Thanks for the help.
Matt

That's the discharge for the air pump. You need to run it to the box. Either epoxy the nipple back on or just buy a used stock box from someone else. Usually, there's a couple for sale in the classifieds section for under $50.

It happened to my airbox when i had it. what i did was stuck a another hose into the broken one. A hose which is a tad bit smaller to fit ofcourse. Then i used j.b. weld to hold it. Then when i changed to an aftermarket box. I looked inside the hole that it created, and it's a small space that connects to nothing. It's all closed off. It has nothing to do with the filter. I'm not 100 % sure but that hose i believe is connected to the airpump, and it blows air out,and that little section in the airbox that is closed off ,is used to muffle the airpump. So you probally have a couple options. Do what i did, if you don't want to hear the airpump, or leave it out and hear the airpump moo, maybe put a little filter over it,if your worried at all. Or use it as a excuse to get a new intake.

I agree with Rynberg. Go to the parts section, and buy a used part. You can probably find someone to sell just the top section. I bought a used bottom there for $25 shipped. It's not worth trying to fix the broken section.

Check this out if you are interested in better performance from your stock airbox.
