stock airbox mod...seems to help

I did the 'thrifty man's airbox mod" per the Robinette site instructions, and I have to say it does make a difference.
The cool thing is, unless you look real close, you can't tell anything!

For anyone else attempting this, I offer the following advice:

1.) Use 1.5" hose, no larger. There simply isn't enough room between the frame and the radiator hose to fit a bigger intake pipe in. Make your opening(s) as close to the radiator hose clearance, rather than the side of the airbox.

2.) Use a hole-saw, not a Dremel tool. You will get a much cleaner, rounder hole.

I am gonna see how this works out, and if I continue to like it, I will make a custom intake piece that fits in the "spongy material" area by the radiator, that has fittings built in for the intake hoses.
This will look much better than having the intake hoses themselves poking out......
(I love working in a machine shop!)

Could you post some pictures of your set up? I am most curious about how your route the hose from the box down to the spot where the second oil cooler inlet should be. Thanks

Can a hose draw air from the front of the car instead of the radiator? That would make it breathe easily and get some ram air right? I don't understand why all the intakes draw air from the side of the radiator. It's not that big of an opening and the air isn't directly off of the front of the car.

stock airbox mod....

I have an auto tranny car, so the spot that the R1/R2 models use for their 2nd oil cooler is the tranny cooler on mine, so no intake route possible there.
But really, everything is so packed in around that area that there simply is no better spot to draw fresh air than from the right side of the radiator. Unless you were willing to remove and relocate the overflow tank, maybe.....not something I would want to attempt.
I looked really hard to find a better intake source....just isn't there. But it IS a good spot, the side of the radiator, I mean it opens directly to the front of the car, coming out just below and beside the A/C condenser.....right out in the nice fresh air.
I'll post some pics of the intake piece I'm going to make when I get it done.
