Steering wheel spacer solution for TALL drivers

After years of wishing for a decent aftermarket seating solution to accomodate a better driving position for my 6'4" body (especially with a helmet on), I have found a viable alternative.

I have tried a Quick Release steering hub purchased off Ebay (+/-40$+pricey shipping). The quick release feature is not the selling point here, although the fact that it does not have slop is. No slop in it at all.

The advantage here is that the hub acts as a spacer bringing the wheel closer to the driver by 2.5". Because of the angle of the column is also brings the wheel up higher leaving more clearance for the legs.

BTW, you can only use this in conjunction with a full aftermarket wheel setup where you already have sorted out issues with an aftermarket Steering Boss/hub adapter.

I've had this adapter on for a few weeks and it's working out great. Installation is a cinch and leaves the interior looking relatively stock. With the wheel closer to me now I can recline the seat further back and not lose any leverage on the wheel. The new seating position takes a little getting used to and does leave a lot more headroom.

Sitting upright would have been nicer, but I'm not prepared to spend several thousands for appropriate seats or hack the interior with some aluminum racing seats.

For a small investment, the hub is worth taking a look at. Ebay. Who would have thought?!

Is this the BOSS hub or whatever? Can you remove the spacer so that the wheel is still pretty straight? J/W.

Here is a picture of what the Quick release Steering hub is like.

If anyone needs to see this installed in the FD let me know, and I'll snap a few pictures.

Cheers.
