starter is clicking/spark or arc in the engine bay

The cold front hit central Texas a few days ago and I haven't been able to start the FD since then.

I still need to do some more troubleshooting on the starter/battery.

However, my friends noticed that when I turn the key to start the car, the starter clicks and some sparks are observed in the engine bay. The spring on the primary throttle shaft turned red from the heat.
I took off the throttle body to check for shorts, disconnected the coil connectors and saw one spark.

I remember that I was trying to de-flood the car.
I cranked it over with the EGI fuse out and the sparkplug out. Waited for a few minutes, installed the plugs and EGI fuse, and cranked it over. It started to crank over, but didn't start. I tried to start it again (quick turn off and turn to start position) and the starter clicked and you can tell these was some sort of spark in the engine bay (short/arcing).

Anybody seen this type of behavior?

The battery is Guardian and located in the bin behind the driver seat. I've recharged it a few times and it may be close to it's end. I've checked the connections from the battery, starter, and alternator. No shorts found.
