SR Motorsports Cold Airbox Fit

Hi, I bought a cold airbox from SR Motorsports. I've had problems getting the thing to fit. SR claims I'm the only one with fitment problems.

I first tired to fit the airbox with the turbos out of the car. Had to carefully trim the part that fits down around the radiator shroud to get it to seat on the frame rail to bolt down.

Got the turbos and all hoses back in, and again the box wouldn't seat. Had to remove the radiator hose support *and* shorten the hose. Even so, it presses the radiator hose where it meets the radiator.

Then found out the T2 inlet pipe was behind the hard AC aluminum line. Ended up slotting the bolt holes, and cutting the lower radiator shroud area to try and twist the airbox out from behind the AC line. Still couldn't get it to fit with the stock T1 intake hose - had to use thinner walled hose from McMaster Carr.

Lastly, I've got to shove the air filters downward on their mounting pipes pretty hard, since the top of the box is slanted and the mounting pipes aren't. Tightening the clamps pulls the filters back up a bit. To get the lid on I have to mash the upper filter down about an inch.

SR claims there is something wrong with my car. However, the OEM radiator is fixed - it won't move either way. In fact I ground down part of the frame to keep it from rubbing on the radiator on the drivers side. And the AC line *is not* bent.

SR said they'd check out the box to make sure it was made correctly. They claim no one else has needed to modify their airbox to get it to fit, and they have installed hunderds. They first claimed all third gens are a bit different, and the airbox might need some minor trimming. 10 to 1 they still claim my car is screwy.

Anyone else have an SR cold air box? Is there a trick to installation? Fitment problems? Any other fit problems with other SR products?

Thanks,

I don't think any of those cold air boxes fit properly. I had an M2 that I was going to install but didn't for various reasons and it didn't seem to fit that well either.

Thanks for the feedback. You remember exactly what/where had problems fitting?

Thumbs down

It amazes me that SR is still in business. I would never purchase their products again and hope they go out of business soon.

Most likely it's their intake that is not properly developed.

I have a m2 carbon box and it fits perfect. Nothing aftermarket is going to fit just like stock parts, but if they claim no trimming and you had to trim, then something is wrong.

i think it was very similar to yours. it didn't fit well over the aftermarket radiator, the filters did not fit well, the filters were a biatch to install. i gave up after an hour or so and re-installed my stock airbox.

i was going to sell the car but then decided i couldn't part with it otherwise i probably would have tried again.

seems like most of the cold air boxes do not fit properly. and no my car was never in an accident so everything is straight.
