squeaky belt/pulley, what to do?

the other day i started hearing this squeaky nose from my engine bay. so i stopped the car and popped the hood and it's pretty clear that either the belt is making nose or the pulley. then i stop the engine and the belt squeaks a little more, like 1/2 a second to show that it's stopping (kinda like when you brake suddenly).
anyways, i'd usually spray wd40 or some other proper lubricant on squeaks but i doubt it's good to grease up the belt because it could slip.

any diagnostics or suggestions?
any lubes that wont make the belt slip?

(my friend told me that i should try some fan belt spray, not to sure what it's called, because it's suppose to quiet out the noise and it won't make the belt slip, he told me he had done that to his old mazda mpv)

There is a tension adjustment bolt on the alternator, if that is the loose belt you just loosen the alternator mounting bolt and tighten the adjustment bolt. I dont remember off the top of my head but I think there is a similar adjustment for the others. Just look around in there, it is a simple thing to do. Heck, I bet the guys at your local Checker or AutoZone would help you out for free or at least if you buy something.

You tried regular belt dressing right? It's designed specifically for squeaks and won't cause slippage.
