Just received my shipping notification for my set that’s been on order for a month now. Can’t wait to finally get started on this. Went with the black face gauges, GPS speedo, and a custom 4 1/2” tachometer with a red face and Rx7 logo. Not sure if I am going to keep the factory board or not yet. My OEM tach was temperamental and the tach never worked properly. Really nervous about how I am going to wire it. Hopefully it is easy as you say.

Awesome can’t wait to see how yours turn out. I think the red tach will really look good once installed. Have you decided whether or not you are going to keep the OEM board yet?

Red94fd 03-25-18 02:29 PM

I am going to try to keep back board.i cant wait to see the red tach...

That turned out great!

Thanks,.. i like it. The only thing is if you got 4 in speed be really careful cutting the plastic cluster piece to fit the gauge or you will break it. It doesnt fit that easy. The actual black plactic speedo gauge hole is 3.8 in after cutting it open. I need to mess with it a little more..
Use realy sharp tools and slow, dont cut yourself.. lol
Esser, you did a great job , man.

Glad I could help!

And yes it is a tight fit, but once you get it in there it holds it damn tight!

Those black with ted font look sick...! I almost went qith those, but i was afraid they were to dark for me to see them. I am blind.. lol
side note.. the gps speedo has the gps sensor plug on the back og the gauge. I had to drill a hole for the gauge to fit.

can't wait to get mine! we need a detailed wiring DYI! lol

Red94fd 03-28-18 10:02 PM

Believe it or not, the wiring is not that complicated. Read the instructions a couple of times and find the wires that you need from the stock harnes and connect them.

Thanks! Really hoping the colors will offset and make the tach “pop”.

I am just now diving into everything. Not sure how I am going to get the speedhut facia’s to sit in the back of FD bezel without cutting some of the FD bezel backing.

If you follow what Esser did , you will figure it out. Dont cut anything. The only thing that i cut a little was the white rear plastic. Inside there, are small studs that you might have to trim/cut.

Ask if you have any question. I made one or two mistakes, but i worked around it. The bigest chalange i encounter was making the holes for the studs. Go easy , cause it will break.

I am trying to do it without using the OEM glass. Trying to get the front fascia of the speedhut gauges closer to the hood bezel. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...84e1e7992.jpeg

I know what you are trying to do, i liked that idea too.. The speedhunt bezel in black looks good. In this case you know you would have to trim the front fascia where the speedhunt bezel would fit. I dont think i would do it though.

Houstonderk 03-30-18 07:38 AM

So how do you have the gauges secured? I had always thought that the front glass part was what was holding it with the new gauges.

Already trimming and sanding away lol. My OEM bezel was already messed up in some areas. If I screw up I will just fill the holes and recut them to secure the gauges to its the face. I wouldn’t recommend anyone doing this to one in great shape. Looks like the holes get bigger on the face of the holes. I am hoping I can get it to work.

I have them secured by the backside of the gauge. I seated them far enough back where they are held by the backing screw included with the gauges.

A side note.... I ordered mine with the Revolution Black bezels. The legacy bezels are thinner and not as bulky. If I would of known this from the get go that is what I would of gone with. I am running into an issue in between the Tach and Speedo. The bezels are so bulky the OEM bezel is going to be a tight fit.

If you follow the tutorial then yours will look exactly like that....

My OEM glass is junk. The chrome is flaking and dull. Gonna mess with more when I get home and see which way I need to go.

XxBoostinxX 03-30-18 06:34 PM

Done! Took quite a bit of sanding and trimming but they fit like a glove. I don’t really recommend doing this. If I could of gotten away with doing it the original way in the thread I definitely would of.
