Question speed rating on tires.....

My car has Goodyear Eagle GT II tires on it, and for the life of me I can't figure out the speed rating on them!

Since the weather has been cooler and my car running so strong, I have taken to giving a few rides to my friends ever now and then, and sometimes this means running up to 150 mph for a minute or two.

Now, the idea of having an under rated tire going BOOM at that speed is NOT appealing........

The only identification on the tire other than the size and the make is a 91T. I certainly don't hope that these are only "T" rated tires......

Well dammit.....I went here:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/speed.htm

and found out that indeed the 91T IS the service rating on the tire!

****!

"T" rating is for sustained 118 mph runs......

What sort of bozo would have put these on an FD?????

The sad thing is, you'll never wear out these tires since they are stiffer. Well, if they handle okay, just keep them until you round these off. I didn't think they make T rated tires for the stock 225-50-16 size. But, who knows. I saw some 215-60-16 tires on minivans the other day. I guess 16 inchers are pretty much mainstream these days.

Well I have a set of H rated tires on my car from the previous owner so dont feel bad. T is much worse than H. I just bought a set of Bridgestone S-02's in a W rating. Thats 168mph. I think I will be good now. The H rated tires are still like new if you want em I will sell em to ya cheap! Much better than those T rated tires. That thing must float at high speeds. I am suprised your not dead yet.

91T

The "91" is a designation related to load range/carrying capacity. (615kg/tire@max psi) It is not a speed rating. "t" is speed rating of 190KM. I don't have the conversion to mph.
