Its just like saying you can go buy a Mazda 3 and break records at Pikes Peak because Mad Mike did it.........never mind that it was a massively sponsored endeavor with a boosted 4 rotor and professional driver. Factory sponsored cars really shouldn't impress you, these home built machines without the backing or teams of engineers should.
Private entities throwing their hat into the motorsports realm is nothing new. That lack of common motorsports history among mazda enthusiasts is simply put and in general, perplexing. IME, the average rotor / mazda head doesn't know much beyond (or care to know more?) "the 787b won one time at Le Mans long time ago, etc."

Either way, BIG kudos to Rob and his team. Huge effort, nice driving and solid showing. For me, it was about time someone finally had the nerve to attempt setting modern records with a rotary and I know I'll be keeping a watchful eye out for similar endeavors from this team in the future.

This is great for Rob and the rotary community. Great to see the FD platform still competing and doing well.

Congrats to Rob and his team. Cheers!

Good stuff. Crazy watching the latest video of the lead-up. Almost an hour long, and it really flew by as I was watching it. Very entertaining.

Side note.... @Jeff76 Pittsburgh?

It feels like a lifetime ago. When the lounge was one of the highest trafficked websites. I was here back when the site crashed and was restarted. Dreaming of someday owning a 3 rotor. Never once imagined it would snowball into this. I dont even want to update my signature. The water injection came in super handy with pikes peak actually. so it came full circle

Thank you for posting the video!!
The original post with video had one straight away and a corner turn.

I thought after seeing the first video that the corner turn was a bit soft. After seeing it again, Rob's reports of having less than optimal tires is very clear to see now. The throttle was laid low because the installed tires gave garbage traction.... in my opinion. If there is legimate criticism of the corner approach and throttle control, I am all ears.

For me... more of footage that I see .. the more I am impressed.

Kudos to Rob and the team for a safe run up the mountain!! It is way more difficult than it looks.

^^ What a lame link in a thread about Rob Dahm's performance. I think he did a great job, and I am sure he has tuned out all the negativity towards him from this forum. Can't wait until next years performance, and the year after that, and after that. Some fade into obscurity while Rob continues to thrive.

Pikes Peak onboard footage is always amazing to watch, but the video from the fast little single-seat racecars is practically mind-numbing. I hope we get to see the full run from Rob's RX7, finishing Pikes Peak is a huge accomplishment and he should be proud of himself and his team.
