this is some BS

i posted something a week or so ago about a problem i have...when my turbos boost up..i can smell gas...people on here told me that there was a recall on the fuel system or something to do with the fuel...so i just got off the phone with the dealership and they told me that that recall was closed....and for them to even look at it, it costs $105. then if they find what it is, i can put that money towards the repair....thats some bullshit....anyone know exactly what i can look at/for??? maybe a pic or something...i dont wanna go and pay the dealership a rediculous amount of money, if i can fix it myself in a few minutes....

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

You should buy a new FPD and a fuel line recall kit (about $200 for both) and either install them yourself or get a dealer to do it. Labout will probably be $200-$300.

If the recall has not been done on your car (which is highly doubtful) Mazda BY LAW has to do it to your car FOR FREE. This holds for any of the 3 recalls. If the recall has been done in the past, though, they won't do it again.

I've yet to see a 3rd gen that didn't have the fuel line recall done, though. Not to mention I wouldn't want the yahoos at a Mazda dealer do the recall or any work that's THAT involved. There's a number of rotary specialists in your area - if you can't do the work, find a specialist to do it. You'll get the job done right for a fair price.

If you smell fuel while under boost (only under boost, and in the cabin but not under the hood), the most likely cause is the failure of the check valve in the brake booster line. The replacement kit moves the check valve to the other (driver's) side and, if you would like to do it yourself, you can get the kit from Ray @ Malloy for $17. Takes two minutes, and I'll bet you a dollar that will fix it.

#1, go to the dealer with your VIN, or call them, or call Mazda NA, and have them check what was done to your car. The information is there. As someone else said, it is 99.9999999999% likely that your car already had the fuel system recall done.

Replacing the FPD would be next.

Give the dealer your VIN # and they'll give you a free printout of your car's history w/mazda. Here you will see what recalls have been done and what kind of service work Mazda has done to it in the past.

If you want to buy the fuel recall kit, some dealers wont sell you the kit because its a "recall only" item. If the first dealer wont sell it to you, go to another and try to get it from them. If you dont have time, order it from Malloy Mazda.
