Some Before and After Shots of My R2 Project

Here are some before and after shots of my 94 R2.

I pickecd this car up from a local member back in the summer of 07. A leaking oil pan lead to this complete overhaul. I've still got a few small projects left, but this is basically it. Let me know what you guys think. I'll post some more shots once she comes out of winter storage.

A big thanks to IRP for building the short block, you guys do some awesome work.

This is how it looked the day I picked it up.

Notice the shower curtain under the car to catch the oil leaking from all around the oil pan...

Nasty dirty engine...

I've done a little work to the interior since the last shot, adding a Spirt R shift boot and covering the center console with black leather with red stitching. She needs her last 500 miles of break in and a good tune. If anyone wants specs I can post that too.

Thanks for looking!

O GOD shrink those pics man.

Great car. I'm also an IRP guy myself! Gold wrap on the IC is a nice touch.

Fixed... I get used to working on a huge screen all the time, sorry for the obscene pic size.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Nice ride. I really like your interior. Are your intercooler end tanks gold plated?

Not gold plated, its a heat reflective wrap. The back is adhesive and its really thin. Does a great job of keeping heat from being absorbed by the metal its attached to.

THe car looks great! You might consider getting better air filters and ducting them so they get only cold air. Foam filters typically don't filter much besides small rocks. I can't quite tell but it looks like your tensioner pulley for the PS/AC belt is on backwards, flange should go to the rear.

Thanks Jeff. I do have some plans to rework the engine bay a bit. I don't like the fuel system I'm using very much and plan to convert to all top feeds and remove the rest of the emissions stuff I wont be needing.

Along with that some k&n's and a nice ducted box for the filters, my water injection kit, and the RA external oil injection reservoir are being fitted.

I'll have to look into the idler pully. You are right it is on with the flange facing forward. I did it like this because the FSM and the parts diagram show it differently, the FSM showing it how you reccomend, the parts diagram how I have it. When I got the car the pulley was on with the flange back and it was eating the belt away to the point I thought it would break and was putting rubber pulp all over the engine bay. This could have been from a poor build, or any number of things. After the rebuild I didnt want to have trouble so I flipped it like the parts diagram shows. I'll try it the other way and see if it binds the belt with this build.

Well, it actually is brand new. Mazda dealers in Japan sometimes have things on the shelf and list price is surprisingly less than buying one used. I happened to have the airbag from a 2002 wheel, so all i needed was the wheel itself.
