Solenoid rack question..I know you guys are tired of this..

Ok...well it seems like everyone and there brother is tring to get to the Fuel pulsation dampner right now. Me included. Well like everyone else im going to do a hose job in the process. (sequential simplification to be exact) but my delema lies with the rack.

I cannot for the life of me get the back screws out of the rack, closest to the fire wall. Now I think that one is stripped. How the hell do I get these things out now? I know you can't drill them out (read that in another post) someone I believe said vise grips, but how the hell do you get them back there? What type? Any other sudgestions? Need help...i cant go anywhere more till I get thoes screws out. Pictures, graphs, step by step, prayers...whatever.

Well this has turned out to be downright a nightmare on my part. This project was a lot bigger then I can handel. But now im up to my eyeballs and theres no turning back now. This is fir sure, If I ever have to do this again...i know what not to do.

If the rear screw is not stripped, there are 2 things you can use. Either a phillips ratchet piece or one of those L shapped screw drivers. If it IS stripped, you are going to have one HELL of a time getting it out. Visegrips IS possible, if you can actually fit yourself back there. What I did was I used a chisel and positioned it right at the top of the screw, but off to the side a bit, and then I tapped it with a small hammer. I was able to get the screw loose like this in only a few tries. Once it was loose, I simply grabbed it with the pliers and turned it the rest of the way out.
Good luck.

I have a question ... is the rack still in the car? Why don't you just take the coil box out and then take the entire rack assembly out? You'll have to deal with the fuel lines that run through it ... and the TB coolant line if you use such a thing, but it might be easier?

actually tried that. But I just cant figure out what is holding the actuall mounts in anymore. Some phantom hose that I dont see. The fuel lines were a bitch b/c one of the clamps has "split" top and bottom were there own clamp so to speak.

sdlkfhjsdlkgsdlkgjdkljggkjklj This is annoying.....

You have to take the coil pack out....then all the screws you can see...plus the oil hard lines off the rack....and so on then you will be able to get to the back by twisting the whole assembly. I did it the other night again and it took a little while but I got it.

Well I finally got pissed off enough at it. Walked out side and said that MFer is comming out. I was so close to getting the whole mount out rather then the rack.

So...i got pissed. Walked over to tha car and yanked up on it. LOW AND BEHOLD! I saw what one damn hose was holding it in there. I cant belive I missed it. 3 hrs trying to get out the screws in the back and ONE FING HOSE was all i needed. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I WIN!

Now..i dont see how im EVER going to get it back in there. But we will see....

Onto the fuel pulsation dampner.....

Just for future reference, there is a fairly easy, simple way to get out a screw with a stripped/cammed head. Go to Lowe's/Home Depot (or you may already have one) and get a specific type of hacksaw. It looks like a drywall hole saw, but uses a hacksaw blade. Basically its a handle with just the blade sticking out the end (easy to get in tight spaces). Now just start hacking on the head of the screw! Let's see if I can get a semi-graphical representation going here. Pretend this is a screw head 'D' and this is the hacksaw blade '---'. Cut it like this 'D---'. Make sense? What you're trying to do is cut enough out of the head to fit a small flat-head screwdriver in there. Once you have enough of it cut out just unscrew it like normal! But try not to round out what you just cut!

When I did my hose job I cammed THREE screws! Did this simple procedure and voila! They were all out within 15 min.
