I haven't decided what car yet but I have an 2001 LS1 / T56 as well at all the wiring, ECM etc. I am also looking at an LS1 / 915 trans in a 914. I have seen a few LS1 / 240Z and they were unreal. I would consider a FD but the car is far more expensive and In Ca. the emissions would add to the cost. I also have seen how the cats are stuffed in the LS1/FD and that just looks so tight, not to mention the heat etc. I need to do my homework and not rush. I will miss the FD.

I had my fun but don't like engines with out torque. Rowing through the gears isn't fun without it. Sure it was fast/quick but I just miss real torque. There isn't a nicer looking car around (FD) so I'm with you there. I really just want more reliable power. Not to mention double the fuel efficiency. I will never put down the Mazda Rx7's overall package, its just not for me.

The FD is not for everyone. Theres more wallet friendly cars out there to choose from and theres nothing wrong with trying something out to see if you like it. Good luck with your next project. From your previous post, it sounds like you have some fun projects in mind.

Now who wouldn't say yes to 450 ft.lbs. of torque at 4500 RPM at a weight of 2500Lbs.

First, good luck with your future projects, J.S.J. I'm sure the 240Z/LS1 swap will be a runner.
I doubt it. Let's say the average rider was 150 lbs. A Yamaha R1 with a half tank of fuel would be around 420 lbs. A very average running R1 w/exhaust would be putting out about 150 rear wheel hp. That would give roughly 3.8 lbs/hp. That means that the 240Z would need (given an optimistic weight estimate of 2400 lbs.) at least 625 hp to run with the R1. That's a lot of hp to put to the ground cleanly, especially on the street. And judging by how straight and smooth the 240Z was running from what appears to be a first gear dig, I seriously doubt it was putting down that much.
Actually, upon further examination, the bike appears to be an R6 (600cc, 105hp), not an R1. Both bikes require a lot of skill (actually, nearly all of today's sportbikes do) to extract maximum performance, but the R6 even more so (at least in a straight line), due to its narrow above-12,000 rpm powerband. Big difference in performance.
Nonetheless, I'm sure the car itself is fast. All I'm saying is that-- unless at a dragstrip that shows timing light display-- watching a video of a car running against a bike doesn't prove much.
