So this is what caused that noise I was hearing..

Finally got around to dropping my squirrel cage and this is pretty much what I expected to see. All that bedding he got is hood insulation

He's talking about the blower motor. Looks like a mousewheel.

I've worked on a few cars with dead rodents. I've seen them make nests out of engine compartment insulation, chew wires, etc.

car sits outside but i run it every couple weeks to try and discouage "residents". didnt work this time.

LOL, yeah... it sucks. My car had mice too. After my engine died I let the car sit for about a year while I finished school. The mice took over the interior and chewed up all the insulation, my glovebox was turned into a nest and it looked just like that. I haven't pulled the blower motor yet, but I am sure it will not be pretty. The interior of my car is so gross right now. They also enjoyed eating the leather on my ebrake handle.

I think they mostly stayed clear of the engine bay because it was covered in oil from the eccentric shaft bolt backing out.

At least my interior was in bad shape before so it doesn't really bother me that much. Plus my car is going to be more of a track rat now.
