It's not broken. That's there so the ring can expand. It's normal what you have there....

And I just noticed what you did to get the transmission off. It's too late now but watch this video

You might want to take a wire brush and clean up the splines on that input shaft too.

Ohhhh damn I was trying to install the ring UNDER the crown. I think it goes over it, it makes more sense...

I feel dumb.
